Joanna Calabrese is a senior Environmental Science and Policy major, Chair of the Student Sustainability Committee, and the Director of Environmental Affairs for the Student Government Association. She is psyched to be leading a talented cast of leaders in the SSC this year and particularly interested in working with SSC to institutionalize practices and policies that reduce energy and materials use on campus. In her spare time, Joanna enjoys playing the violin, reading the Sunday paper, biking to new places, and spending time with her twin sister, Laura.
Laura Calabrese

Laura Calabrese is a senior Sociology major and yes, Joanna’s twin sister. Laura is particularly interested in clean energy technologies and excited by the potential for green collar jobs in the United States. As a member of SSC and as the Organizational Director for the student group UMD for Clean Energy, she is excited to contribute to the University of Maryland’s efforts to achieve carbon neutrality and become a national model for a green university. In her spare time Laura studies and practices cooking. Take it from Joanna—every piece of food that she touches tastes like magic (and one day she will be a master chef!).
Clark DeLong

Clark DeLong is a Landscape management major. He specializes in native plant species of the Mid-Atlantic and sustainable landscape practice. Clark has led a number of projects on campus including the Campus Creek restoration project and a survey of the plant species present on the Wooded Hillock. His hobbies include woodcarving, hiking, botanical illustration, violin and studying plants.

Paul DiPialo is a senior Environmental Science and Policy major with a minor in Environmental Economics. He is interested in urban policy and smart growth development. Aside from sustainability, he enjoys being active in his fraternity, most sports, reading the news, and eating at the co-op every opportunity he can!

Sarah is an environmental science and policy major. She is also part of Tzedek, the Jewish social justice group, and an intern for Master Peace Community Farm. She likes to farm, speak Hebrew and Spanish, bike around, cook vegetarian meals, meditate, do yoga, and be radically aware. She wants to bring sustainable food into the dining halls. She has future aspirations of being a beekeeper/rabbi/restaurant-owner/farmer/activist.

Daniel is a freshman who plans to major in Civil (Environmental) Engineering. He is interested in learning more sustainable practices and promoting these practices to students and staff at the University of Maryland. He especially likes to recycle and compost. Daniel loves playing tennis, hiking, and watching sports and movies. After college, he hopes to be part of a team that plans, designs, and constructs "green" buildings, highways, rail systems, aircrafts, etc. In addition, he wants to help create new and innovative methods of sustainable and clean energy.

Elle Everhart is a highly ambitious (some may say crazy) Freshman working on a Cell Biology and Genetics, and Government and Politics double degree. She first became interested in sustainability when she took AP Environmental in high school, and has been promoting ever since! She is interested in many methods of sustainability, including environmental technology and the tried-and-true reduce/reuse/recycle. Outside of classes and clubs, she is interested in many things, including music, reading, and photography. When she graduates, she is going to medical school, and will eventually (hopefully) find the cure for cancer.

Michael Harrison is a senior finance major. In terms of sustainability, he sees Earth as one organism and we are its white blood cells; He believes everyone has their part to play in the preservation of our planet. Michael also believes that our generation has the potential to make a true difference in the green movement and would like to assist with the public relations aspect by helping to make our student body more aware of the little things they could do on a daily basis to help our planet. He enjoys traveling, music, his dogs, and long walks on the beach.

She is particularly interested in changing the student body lifestyle at UMD and creating new events, traditions, and campaigns to facilitate green practices on campus by assisting with public relations. Part of a team conducting research on sustainable campus power generation, she is particularly interested in the policy aspect of sustainability. She is a news junkie and between checking her endless Google reader updates, she likes to eat out, play Wii, sleep, camp, read, and plan her stay in London for study abroad next semester.

Matthew Popkin is a freshman Government and Politics Major. He is eager to get involved in environmental policy because of the alarming effects of global warming and the possibilities that green technology presents for our society. Matthew has traveled to Zion National Park, Grand Canyon National Park, Banff National Park, and Yosemite National Park, where he enjoys hiking, rafting, and being surrounded by nature. Matthew also enjoys biking, playing soccer, and playing tennis. When spotted indoors, he is often playing the piano, eating, reading, and watching his favorite TV shows Seinfeld, The West Wing, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, and The Colbert Report.

Dylan Rebois is a Junior studying mechanical engineering. He is particularly interested in leveraging technical knowledge and cutting edge research to effect change in national energy and environmental policy, a theme that he explores as a member of the university's chapter of Engineers Without Borders and through the Student Sustainability Committee. When free time presents itself, Dylan indulges in the occasional video game (on an ENERGY STAR TV that otherwise remains unplugged, of course).

Crystal is a sophomore biology major and French minor. She hails from Chicago, Illinois, moving to Maryland just before her senior year of high school. As a new member to the SGA Communications Department and returning member to RHA Ellicott Hall Council (this time as president!), she hopes to help bridge the gap between these powerful student organizations and unite her fellow campus residents with key campus issues. With a grassroots approach, she trusts that her actions may help fortify both parties by increasing student participation and awareness in campus politics.
